Fearless Predictions for 1999 Academy Award Nominations…
Okay, so this wasn’t too hard. But the real question now is: in this presidential election year will Academy voters finally be put off by the American Beauty’s tale of a middle-aged man’s obsession with a young nymphet and his problematic relationship with overachieving wife? Or will they be drawn instead to The Insider’s story about a do-good reformer out to expose how corrupt things are? Or maybe they will be drawn into The Cider House Rules’s abortion debate.
